Business or Tourist Visa (B-1/B-2)

B-1 visa is for business visitors, and B-2 visa is for tourist visitors. To be eligible for either of these visas, you must demonstrate:

  1. you have no intention of abandoning your residence abroad, and
  2. that your stay will be temporary, and
  3. must show sufficient funds to finance the trip.

Usually, you can demonstrate that you have no intention of abandoning your residence abroad by showing the purpose of your stay in the United States. For a B-1 visa, this can be shown through a written letter by your foreign employer. If you are visiting a friend of relative, a written letter by your friend or relative may occasionally suffice.

To prove that your stay will be temporary, you must establish ties to your residence abroad. This can be shown by proofing you have a job or property in your home country and presence of close family members in your home country.

Please note that B-1 business visitors are limited in the type of work they can do in the United States. B-1 visitors can only do work for their foreign employer and must be paid only by their foreign employer.
